Opto Biosystems is a fast-growing, venture-backed company pioneering implantable technologies that interface with the human body to address critical unmet medical needs. We're looking for driven individuals who are passionate about pushing the boundaries of engineering and science to solve some of the most complex biological challenges. In this early-stage environment, we seek versatile team members with a hands-on approach and a willingness to learn quickly and adapt. We value diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds to join us in our mission. Learn about our team here!
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Computational Neuroscientist with a background in Computational Neuroscience, Engineering, Physics (or a similar field). This person will be based within the data science team and will work closely with our wider research and development team and will perform numerical simulations of biological neural–tumour networks, larger brain circuit-level modeling, and analysis of electrophysiological data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with a diverse team of data scientists, electrical engineers, and neuroscientists and perform numerical simulations, analyze neural data, and inform critical device decision making.
- Perform numerical simulations and biophysical modelling of neurons, neural–tumour interactions, and larger-scale finite-element modeling of electric field distributions in brain tissue using either purpose-built code in Python or simulation software such as NEURON, COMSOL, or Sim4Life.
- Process and analyse electrophysiological data.
- Work closely with other neuroscientists and engineers to influence device design and neuromodulation protocols.
- Stay up to date with industry advancements and contribute to the brainstorming of new ideas and improvements.
Essential Skills:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Neuroscience, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.
- A PhD in Computational Neuroscience, Neuroscience, Neuro-oncology, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent (or equivalent industry experience in biophysical modelling and neural data analysis).
- Very strong programming skills in Python (particularly in using Numpy, Scipy, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib, and Tensorflow/Pytorch).
- Extensive experience performing biophysical modelling of neurons and biological neuronal networks of the brain in Python (or another language).
- Experience working with neural simulation software such as NEURON, COMSOL, or SIM4Life.
- Experience working with and analysing raw electrophysiological signals.
- Experience working with standard machine learning methods (e.g., classification, dimensionality reduction, clustering etc.).
